Bug Dress up
What fun we had today. There were so many insects and bugs crawling around Ilam School today.
So many legs, wings and eyes, even a giant snail leaving a slime trail!






















We had a maths challenge today. This is called a rich task.
First we have to find the maths in the problem, then decide how to work it out.
Here is the problem.

We also needed to work with a buddy. To do this we have learnt that we need to 
  • talk to our buddy about the problem
  • listen to each other
  • agree on how to solve the problem

First we drew the problem.
Next we counted the pegs.
Finally we shared our thoughts with the class.
We discovered there were different ways to solve this problem.

We counted in ones. 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14 pegs
We counted in twos. 2,4,6,8,10,12,14 pegs (so much quicker).
We added the groups of twos together.
 2 + 2 = 4  (2 towels)
4 + 2 = 6   (3 towels)
6 + 2 = 8   (3 towels and 1 pair of pants)
8 + 2 = 10  (3 towels and 2 pair of pants)
10 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 =14 (3 towels, 1 pair of pants and 4 socks) 

Mrs Hinman needed 14 pegs.

Fun time

This week our letter of the week was e. We read the big book 'Grumpy Elephant'. We had some fun with Mrs Hinman's Elephant Game. We had to catch the butterflies as they flew out of the elephant's trunk.




A bit hard to see the butterflies I'm afraid. But so much fun!

Jack Frost visited today...

Brr it was very cold this morning. The grass was white and crunchy. We ventured out on a frost hunt.
Here are some photos from our time exploring the frost.
The grass was crunchy to touch...and very, very cold.





We could see our footprints and our breath.




Kabir wondered what would happen if 
we took some leaves inside.
So we did. 
Guess what happened?
The leaves melted and were wet and 
brown.

We used our senses to look at the frost (it was white and shiny), feel the frost ( icy and cold), hear the frost (crunching grass), and even taste the frost (some children licked the leaves).

Bubbles



Our poem this week was also about Bubbles.

We got so good at reciting the poem and doing the actions, we shared it at the Year 1 assembly.
